Electrical Safety Directorate functions under Department of Energy. The major functions of the department are as under:
Ø To check the occurrence of accidents and report under section -161 of the Electricity Act, 2003
Ø To conduct initial and periodic inspections of electrical installations under Rule -45 of Indian Electricity Rules, 1956
Ø To issue contractor license, supervisor certificate and wireman permits and their renewals for electricity related works under the rules of the -45 of Indian Electricity Rules, 1956
Ø To conduct examinations for issuance of supervisor certificate and electrical wireman permits
Ø To examine and monitor electrical fee payment related accounts
Ø To examine controversial Energy Meters under U.P. Distribution Code, 2005
Ø To inspect electrical installations at fairs, exhibitions and the programs of public and VIPs
