Brief Introduction

     The Excise Department was set up with the following objectives:

Ø  To regulate the legitimate sale of Intoxicants / Liquor / Narcotics

Ø  To help in promoting development of alcohol / molasses based industries

Ø  To earn maximum revenue through controlled & legitimate sale of Intoxicants /Alcohol / Narcotics for the welfare of the state.

Ø  To prevent illicit sale of Intoxicants / Alcohol / Narcotics.

Ø  To prevent crimes related to Intoxicants / Alcohol / Narcotics.

Organizational Structure and Working

The department is headed by Excise Commissioner and the head office is located in Allahabad. The department has Jt. Excise Commissioner, Dy. Excise Commissioner, Asst. Excise Commissioner and Excise Officers in district level.

Details of Approvals/NOCs/Clearances issued (under Nivesh Mitra)

Excise department issues following licenses to the industries under Nivesh Mitra:

Ø   to Establish a Distillery

Ø   to establish a Brewery

Ø   for Industrial Alcohol

Ø   to Manufacture goods liable to duty or excise under the Medicinal & Toilet Preparations (Excise Duties)

Ø   to Manufacture Ayurvedic preparation by an Ayurvedic Practitioner

Ø  Application for grant of licence in form P.D.1 or P.D. 2 under rule 2(1) of the UP establishment of Distillery Rules, 1910

Ø  Application for grant of a licence to work a brewery in Form B-1 under rule 4(1) of the UP Brewery Rules 1961

Entrepreneurs who propose to set up a distillery, brewery, alcohol based or pharmacy unit need to apply to the department for getting licenses.
